Day 634 – Seeking opportunities

It’s tough. We’re just halfway of our 4th burn with sauna. Today, we decided to get on Murvagh beach, as an additional day. We initially planned to be here on Fridays, but my wife pushed for it to drive here and do it on Thursday. She thinks about switching to Rossnowlagh to Friday, Saturday, Sunday, but I’d like it to be consistent two days Murvagh, two days Rossnowlagh, so we need to figure it out.

Have a quick watch of an update that I recorded at home, prior to our trip to Murvagh, and meet me below for the rest of the write up:

[watch time: 4min 27s]

It’s tough because it’s quiet. Weather is miserable and effectively deters all possible souls from coming to the beach, even for a walk in the forest nearby. It’s quieter than I thought and we barely met a person here. I still think it is worth standing here and making our presence a part of landscape with regular appearances, building trust, so people know that when they expect us, we will be here.

It was hard to fire it up, too. Sauna’s stove has external feeding, and the wind from the Donegal Bay was blowing directly into it, making it virtually impossible to keep the flame up for more than split second. After 2-3 minutes of fighting with a fire starter I managed to get enough of a small flame up, to close the door and let the fire do it’s best while protected by the glass door.

After about 1.5 hours of standing here, one man approached us and I had a decent chat with him. I’ve learned a lot of valuable stuff and will be implementing it soon. What I learned from him might bring benefits to the whole Murvagh community, as it seems they are looking for services like this and might know how to approach it from the council permit perspective. What I mean by that is to receive formal access to the main car park, which is guarded by the height restriction gate. It is free to access for any car below 2.2m, but our sauna is 3.3m high with trailer, so we need someone to unlock the gate and let us in if we would like to operate there. Benefits are obvious: more people go there to swim, because the beach is a bit cleaner from seaweeds, there’s a shower to wash off salty water and to wash feet from the sand, and there are also portable toilets available which is important. We’ll see how we manage and what comes out of it. I will reach out to some people that do a lot of cooperation with council towards Murvagh beach and see if we can join forces.

Other than that Thursday was pretty common, not much had happened except the fact that I almost fell asleep after being massacred by long meetings today. They were definitely too long and I could feel it. Even though some of the topics were even interesting, the sheer length caused my body and brain to fall into standby after a while.

Tomorrow is the opening match of Euro 2024. The competition is almost like soccer World Cup, but on a smaller scale (European countries only), but it feels like it has equally strong vibe and anticipation here. People really can’t wait for the first match and group elimination stage, so if you’re one of the soccer fans and like to watch European players, here is the chance to see them in their national colours and teams. Make sure to tune in, and enjoy, unless you don’t have any interest in soccer, then obviously this paragraph is already boring in itself.

Julian is at home and decided to stay and play a bit. Tomorrow is a big day for him as they go on an annual school trip, so his excitement level is extremely high and he’s counting days for about two weeks already.

Alright, let me wrap up and use the sauna a bit. If there’s no customers yet, at least I will get some benefits until they come. Elizabeth is already heating herself properly and even got to the ocean a moment ago.

Stay tuned and see you tomorrow!
